Dr. Beril Küçümen was born in Istanbul, Turkey. After completing her junior high school education at the British High School for Girls, she graduated from Robert College, Istanbul.
She graduated from Cerrahpasa Medical School, Istanbul University, Turkey in 1981.
Between 1982 and 1988, Dr. Küçümen specialized in Eye Diseases at the Eppendorf Medical School Eye Clinic, Hamburg University, Germany. At the Hamburg University Anterior (front) Segment Surgery, Dr. Küçümen conducted scientific research on Ocular Histopathology with Prof. J. Draeger and Prof. von Domarus. Dr. Küçümen achieved the title of Eye Diseases Specialist after qualifying for the Hamburg Medical Chamber's examination. She collaborated with Prof. P. Kroll at the Eye Clinic, Muenster University, Germany on Vitreoretinal Surgery for two months.
After taking the examination of Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical School, Eye Diseases Department in 1988, Dr. Küçümen qualified to become an Eye Diseases Specialist in Turkey.
From 1989 to 1994, Dr. Küçümen worked at Istanbul Beyoglu Hospital Eye Clinic as chief intern.
In 1992, Dr. Küçümen started laser treatments with Excimer Laser at the first laser treatment center established in Istanbul.
From 1994 to 1997, Dr. Küçümen worked during the establishment of Istanbul Kartal Practice and Research Hospital 2nd Eye Clinic. After completing extensive education on Phacoemulsification and Vitrectomy in Germany, Dr. Küçümen played an innovative role for the application of these branches at the eye clinic.
Between 1997 and 1999, Dr. Küçümen returned to Istanbul Beyoglu Hospital Eye Clinic and continued her research with Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk Yılmaz.
Between April 1999 and August 2005, she worked at the World Eye Hospital - Levent branch.
From September 2005 to December 2006, Dr. Küçümen worked at Acibadem Eye Hospital - Etiler and Acibadem Hospital - Kadikoy.
Currently, Dr. Küçümen is working as Assistant Professor at the Yeditepe University Eye Hospital.

Dr. Küçümen has performed more than 30,000 Cataract and Anterior Segment Surgeries, and about 10,000 treatments by Refractive Surgery Method. Specialized in Corneal Transplantations, which is a special branch of Anterior Segment Surgery, Dr. Küçümen has performed about 2,000 Corneal Transplantation Surgeries. She has joined 41 national and international conferences as a spokesperson and published more than 50 medical papers.

Dr. Küçümen began taking private piano lessons when she was 5 years old. Parallel to her junior and senior high school education, she continued piano and harmony education at the Istanbul University Municipality Conservatory from 1970 to 1979.
Together with her husband, Dr. Küçümen performs as an amateur musician in the Pre-classic Chamber Music Group. Besides her musical activities, Dr. Küçümen is interested in aerobics, dancing, swimming, and trekking.
Dr. Küçümen has excellent command of English and German, as well as fair knowledge of French. She is married and has two children.
